 What is the PGA?
The Potato Growers of Alberta (PGA) is a non-profit potato grower organization that aims to increase the success of the potato growing industry in the Alberta. To accomplish this, the PGA works on three fronts: education and extension, marketing and promotion, and research. The PGA is the voice of the potato industry in Alberta.

Education & Extension
The PGA helps Alberta potato growers access the latest technology and information. We do field demonstrations for growers, showcasing new equipment, new herbicides, and cutting-edge techniques. At the PGA annual meeting growers come to hear professionals from across North America deliver exciting new information related to potato production or farm management. During the summer months, growers gather at breakfast meetings to learn about and discuss current issues in production. To keep our members up-to-date, we also attend conferences, gather information on the latest research, and pass what we’ve learned on to growers through the Potato Minute newsletter, bulletins.

Marketing & Promotion
Another important part of our work is promoting the Alberta potato industry to industry groups, consumers, and government. The PGA travels to trade conferences, produces books and programs for the food service industry, and markets the potato industry to the public. We also speak on behalf of the potato growers to all levels of government in Alberta and Canada.

Research
We look to the future of the potato growing industry by funding new research projects. Our research fund comes mostly from a research levy on potatoes grown in the province. Research grants also provide some research money. Potato researchers apply for research funding directly to the research committee of the PGA. Research projects are posted on this website
